Chequamegon Bird Club

NOTES FROM THE CBC PRESIDENT:

Winter Bird Feeding
Don't forget to provide for the birds this winter. They need food, shelter and water to survive the cold temperatures and deep snows. An easy way to help them is to set up your Christmas tree outside and scatter seed beneath it. Birds also need water and if you are able to provide it, you will most likely attract many more species than you will with birdseed alone. There are many heated birdbaths available or you can use a heated dog's water dish to provide a source of drinking water. Good Birding and Happy New Year to all!

History

The Chequamegon Bird Club was formed in Medford, Wisconsin, in 1981 by renowned ornithologist, Sam Robbins. As a result of the enthusiastic response he received as a guest speaker on a local radio program, Robbins was asked to teach a 1 hour class at the university center. The formal organization of the Chequamegon Bird Club was at the request of the students of that class. The membership number now stands at more than 40 members.

Mission Statement:

  1. To promote the study of birds, their habits, food and habitat requirements
  2. To promote human appreciation of birds and other forms of the natural world
  3. To contribute to general knowledge relating to the distribution of birds in North Central America
  4. To promote the care and protection of birds in their natural environment

Guests and prospective new members are welcome to attend any of our monthly meetings! (Please bring your own cup for the "snacks and beverages" portion of the meeting.)

Note: Any CBC members who weren't able to pick up the official Field Check List (handed out at the monthly meetings) for making your monthly bird sightings observations can print out 2 page M.S. Word version of the Bird Checklist here. If you don't have M.S. Word, you can download the free M.S. Word Reader here.
